Music is able to provoke a certain emotion in the listener. In music with strong bass boom, according to recent studies can make a person feel more powerful and enthusiastic.
Professor Dennis Hsu as the leader of the study from Northwestern University, USA, said the study is motivated by the habits he saw athletes who often listen to music.
"When watching a major sporting event, co-author and I often see athletes with their earphones on when entering the stadium and in the locker room," Hsu said as quoted by CNN, Monday (08/11/2014).
Hsu wants to see the impact of music on a person's sense of strong and dominant and prepare a study involving 75 college students. The study was conducted by preparing two versions of the original song. One version with a strong bass tone and another with a smooth bass tones.
After respondents listened to each song, they were asked to complete a questionnaire related to feeling strong, dominant, happy, joy, and enthusiasm. The result is a song with strong bass is able to induce a feeling of strong, dominant, and determined greater.
According to researchers, this happens because human nature is to associate a heavier sound with authority.
"People can hear certain musical components that express the feelings of power and imitate it internally," Hsu wrote in his research.
